Lazzarini wins Italian Supermoto Championship

An Italian rider and an Italian motorcycle took home the prizes during the final round of the S1 Italian Supermoto Championship; both the International and Italian titles. Ivan Lazzarini and the Aprilia SXV 4.5 of Team DRC Supermoto entered into the annals of history with this important double victory that followed a season's worth of victories in all the classifying rounds and heats of the 2008 Italian Championships. Presenting himself with a large advantage at the start of the race in Busca (Cuneo, Italy), Lazzarini managed the S1 race and closed out the first fraction in 4th place. The result allowed him to mathematically conquer the Italian S1 Supermoto Championship title with one heat still remaining. The international title arrived at the end of the second heat when he crossed the finish line behind teammate Thierry Van Den Bosch. It was the Frenchman, the official DRC Aprilia Off Road rider, who found no equals in Busca and marked the pole positions and victories of both S1 fractions, making for an irrefutable Aprilia Off Road double.

This fantastic success followed a black Friday. During the free trials at Busca, Massimo Beltrami (Aprilia SXV 5.5/Team DRC Supermoto) took a nasty fall while landing a jump, fracturing the radius and ulna of his left arm. He immediately underwent surgery to reset the fracture at the hospital in Cuneo and was fitted for a cast (which he will wear for 40 days). The entire Team Aprilia decided their success in the S1 to the unlucky the rider from Bologna, who was battling for a spot on the S2 podium at the time of the fall.
